The Cuban government received 25,000 tons of wheat “donated” by Russia

MADRID, Spain.- The Cuban government received this Wednesday 25,000 tons of wheat donated by Russia “for the production of food on the island.”

The shipment arrived at the port of Havana and was received by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Ana Teresita González.

The owner, quoted by the Cuban News Agency (ACN), He thanked the donation, since it comes at a time when Cuba is going through one of its worst economic crises, due, as usual in the regime’s discourse, “to the intensification of the blockade”, and not to the terrible government management.

Ana Teresita González also referred to the shipment of wheat as “disinterested help from the Russian Government and people.”

It is worth noting that in the long history of economic and military collaboration between Havana and Moscow, the Cuban government has shown its unconditional support, even in situations condemned internationally such as the invasion of Ukraine.

During the delivery of the wheat, Andrei Guskov, ambassador of the Russian Federation on the island, pointed out that “it is the result of his government’s willingness to support Cuba in the face of the complex situation it is facing.”

When last December the Russian authorities announced shipment of these 25 thousand tons of wheat, they pointed out that for its purchase and delivery they allocated more than 800 million rubles, equivalent to around 11 million 576 thousand 749 US dollars: 469 million rubles (about 6.7 million US dollars) for the purchase of wheat and more than 300 million for delivery.

Already last April Russia had donated to the island’s regime almost 20,000 tons of wheat, to relieve its political ally of the international prices of grains and cereals, which rose after the invasion of Ukraine.

In the last two years, food donations from different countries, including Japan, Nicaragua and the United States, have arrived in Cuba. However, it does not improve the food crisis suffered by Cubans.
