In the current summer season, Ushuaia received 92,700 tourists aboard cruise ships and, at the end of January, expected the arrival of another 157,900 before the end of the summer period.

The General Admiration of Ports (AGP) signed an agreement with the Government of the province of Tierra del Fuego to advance in the design, construction and operation of a cruise terminal in Ushuaia, as part of the expansion of the dock of the port of the capital fuegian

The agreement was signed by the controller of the AGP, José Beni, and the governor Gustavo Melellaand it establishes the conditions for the design, financing, construction and maintenance of the cruise terminal as well as its administration, commercial exploitation and operation, according to what the AGP stated today in a statement.

Melella explained that the terminal will be “much larger than originally planned”, and announced that “it will be located at the head of the port” where the containers are located today.

The province valued the experience that the AGP has in the administration of the “Quinquela Martín” cruise terminal, in the Port of Buenos Aires.

As part of the project, migration offices will also be built, as well as the collection of port fees and port and health security; waiting room, scanner to control people and access turnstiles.

The project will allow “continuing to develop the offer and services that the city of Ushuaia offers to shipping companies and cruise passengers, propping up its growth”reported the AGP.

We want the Port of Ushuaia to be first class for cruise ships, not only recognized for being at the end of the worldMelella added.

Meanwhile, Beni pointed out that the agreement “is a new step forward in the growth of the AGP, which consolidates its federal technical role, and which continues to promote the development of the cruise industry, so important for our country.”

In addition to the cruise terminal, the AGP has already collaborated in the expansion of the Port of Ushuaia and in the technical and environmental studies for the Southern Maritime Crossing, which will link Tierra del Fuego and Santa Cruz by waterway, generating an alternative to passing through Chili.

The new agreement of the AGP implies another step in the completion of the terminal: previously last August, the provincial government and the national entity signed one to carry out technical and economic-financial feasibility studies for its construction.

In the current summer season Ushuaia received 92,700 tourists aboard cruise ships and, at the end of January, it expected the arrival of another 157,900 before the end of the summer period, according to the Provincial Directorate of Ports (DPP) of Tierra del Fuego.
