Undersecretary Monsalve after criticism of Juan Sutil for emergency management of forest fires: “Appreciations have to be seriously and well-founded”

The Government responded to criticism from the former president of the CPC and current candidate for the Constitutional Council, Juan Sutil, who blamed the Executive for an alleged “lack of reaction” in combating the emergency caused by the forest fires that plagued the country.

In this sense, the Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, replied that Sutil’s statements “are general opinions that seem more like political opinions than serious opinions, which are what the country requires in the context of the emergency.”

“To respond with data to Juan Sutil’s assessment: there are 10,728 people deployed to fight fires, there have been 140 aircraft fighting forest fires,” the authority added.

In line with the above, Monsalve stated that “I would like to ask – since Juan Sutil has made this evaluation – what is the data on which it is based; because, from the point of view of air resources and land resources, There is no precedent for the deployment of so much public and private capacity to fight fires, not even in 2017 or 2019.”

“This is a discussion that must be addressed seriously. Out of respect for the seriousness of what happened, where there are 24 deceased compatriots, it seems to me that the assessments that must be made regarding the emergency must be seriously and well-founded.” , sentenced Monsalve.
