Carriers in Caracas protest to demand an increase in fares and access to gasoline

The carriers made a caravan from Caricuao to Chacao to demand their claims from the Ministry of Transportation. They ask that the gasoline quota be raised and that they be given subsidies for tires and oil, in addition to a minimum fare that allows them to cover the operation of the units

Several carriers in Caracas stage a protest in front of the Ministry of Transportation headquarters, on Francisco de Miranda avenue at the height of the Chacao municipality, in order to demand from the authorities an increase in the minimum fare and access to subsidized gasoline to be able to work.

A caravan traveled from Caricuao to the headquarters of the Ministry of Transportation to protest the current conditions and to demand that the head of that office, Ramón Velásquez Araguayán, make his labor demands. They denounce that the diesel quota was reduced and that there are no subsidies for tires and oil.

The mayor of the municipality, Gustavo Duque, indicated that due to this protest that maintains transport units in the middle of the avenue, he warned the public to take precautions for the closure of the busy highway.

On February 8, the president of the National Urban Transport Fund Foundation (Fontur), Eloy Sulbarán, He asserted that they were going to create an instance called “Casa del Transportista” in the states of Miranda, Carabobo and Lara to guarantee the operability of the units.

“In these houses we will provide first-hand attention to the carrier, offering discounts on the necessary inputs for the provision of the transport service, among them, as a priority, oil, batteries and tires, which are consumables with prices that will be for below those of the private automotive supplies market,” he said in an interview with VTV.

But the truth is that for months, the carriers have been asking the authorities to “anchor” the price of the minimum ticket to the dollar in order to collect the equivalent of 0.40 cents, since they consider that with what they collect daily per ticket it is not enough to keep the units going.

Given the slow responses, carriers chose to unilaterally raise the value of the minimum ticket, hitting the pocket of citizens.
