In the afternoon this Tuesday, February 14, President Gustavo Petro addressed the Colombians to explain the changes that your government wants to implement in the country.
His speech took place at the Plaza de Armas, in the center of Bogota, to what extent did the supporters who came out in the capital, as in other cities in the country, to support the reforms he proposes.

As Petro explained, Colombia and the world are experiencing a current crisis due to four situations: covid-19, hunger, climate change and war.
It cannot be a change of lies, it cannot be a change of makeup. Only if the people abandon their government can the change be stopped.
“We are living through a polycrisis: the idea of progress that accompanied us, as if the passing of the years brought us a better life, today vanishes. We flooded with merchandise and businesses, and we thought we could reach happiness, social well-being, but we lived in difficult times when we felt richer“, said.

Petro vindicated the banner of his Presidency, which is change, and said that “change is the way out of the dead end to have prospects going forward, it is the definition of why we are going to have hope“.
The change will be more and more profound to the extent that the majorities of society accompany us. Change is only possible with the people
assured that social welfare is built by guaranteeing universal rights, like everyone can eat, study, have land and be healthy.

Peter referred to the reforms proposed by his government. Of these, the articles of the health reform project have already been filed in Congress. The following will be pension and work. But they will not be the only nor the last, as he explained.
“Allow the reforms. The health, pension and labor projects, which are not the only or the last, seek to guarantee universal rights and that people can access the full exercise of their fundamental rights, as ordered by the Constitution. Congress has the last word and then, perhaps, the judiciary“, he commented.

The president asserted that he believes his government’s projects are the way to build peace and put an end to exclusion and inequality.
He clarified that the final objective of his proposals is to find democracy and peace and asked the “oligarchy that yields privileges and allows the construction of a social pact“.
“I invite the oligarchy, the economic power, to an act of generosity, to a moment to think about fewer privileges today to make profits tomorrow, with a rich and full society, wise, that does not kill each other, that grows like all societies of humanity“, he narrowed.

Finally, he asked Colombian society, and especially his supporters, to mobilize permanently, that they do not bow before the Government: “The time has come to rise up: the President invites his people to rise up, not to kneel, to become an active crowd that holds the future, the present, power in their hands. I want an empowered Colombian society, independent of the Government“.
