Lolita Perez Ledesmaa barely two-year-old girl diagnosed with cancer, underwent a surgical intervention and 14 chemotherapy sessions that she endured with ease and joy, in a process that, together with her family, she transmitted through the TikTok social network, where she has already exceeded the 22,000 followers.

“This experience teaches me a lot, in every way. Worries now go elsewhere, we enjoy every moment much more”, the mother of the little girl, Bárbara Ledesma, told Télam, who this Wednesday will participate in a meeting on awareness, on the Day of the Fight against Childhood Cancer.

In November 2021, when Loli was one year old, she was diagnosed with Edwin’s sarcomawhich is bone cancer, although in this case it affected soft tissues, and there began a whole process that became extensive stays in clinics and sanatoriums.

“Her treatment was 14 chemotherapy sessionswhich began after a surgical intervention in which they removed the tumor lodged in her back, which grew a lot and was already compressing her marrow, which began to cause problems for her to walk ”, explained Bárbara.

Some sessions of this therapy were every 14 days and others every 21 days, and “added to this the hospitalizations due to relapses due to the drop in their defenses,” explained the mother, who said that Loli, the youngest of four siblings and born in April 2020, “he tolerated the treatment very well.”

“All the time I think about what life would be like without her, and if she hadn’t made it through, and beyond having finished the treatment, we always have that fear of thinking that we have to pass the controls, that we are going to be praying and begging that his studies arrive with everything clean and until they give him the final discharge we will be expectant ”, he highlighted.

“I saw the treatment infinite, but it finally happened,” he said.

On January 6, as a gift from the Three Wise Men, Loli completed her chemotherapy treatmentwhich lasted for more than a year, and from then on it entered the stage of “remission”which will require regular checks over the next five years.

The little girl celebrated her release from the hospital dressed as a princess, full of joy and surrounded by her affections, but a few days later she had to return to the clinic due to a drop in her platelets, which required a transfusion.

Barbara revealed that, before her illness, Loli watched videos with her little sister Rufina, four years old, and “At the clinic, she started asking us to make videos for her to post on TikTok, with the nurses she liked.”

“I accepted to pass the time, because therapy is very boring, and without thinking it became a way to go through this long process. Later, other nurses joined, who were going to look for her to make videos, ”she explained.

In this sense, she pointed out that they have “many video publications in the clinic, it was even her who asked for them, but at home she does not want to take a photo.”

Today, There are already more than 22,700 followers that Loli has on her TikTok accountwhich “went viral from a publication with Tini Stoessel”, whom he was able to meet personally when he arrived in Salta to give his show.

This allowed them to connect with many people from different places, with similar problems, said the mother, who added that throughout the treatment the girl maintained “her good spirits and her joy.”

Her siblings, Bautista, 14, and Safira, 11, had to live with their grandmother throughout 2022, because, since they attended school, they could not have contact with Loli, who could not run the risk of suffering a infection.

“His brothers behaved excellently during all this time and they helped us again,” said Barbara, noting that “we made friends with many mothers and fathers of children with cancer, with whom you live daily because hospitalizations are long.”

She was even summoned by the Pediatric Hemato-Oncology Foundation (HOPE) to tell about her family’s experience, within the framework of the activities for the Day to Fight Childhood Cancer.

Bárbara took the opportunity to “thank the doctors and all those who collaborated in this hard process, from which we were able to get ahead”, and especially all the support provided in her work, in the Urban Architectural Preservation Commission (Copaups), while leaving an encouraging and hopeful message for all who are going through similar circumstances.

Last Christmas, Lolita and her family made a single wish: “to be healthy and strong”, as she is seen now.

Salta has Law 7786, for the treatment of children and adolescents with cancer, which was promulgated in 2013 and regulated in 2021, which placed the province as a pioneer in the country for the care of children and adolescents with cancer. .

The law aims, among other things, at full coverage of the pathology, in addition to financial and social aid to the families of child and adolescent cancer patients up to 21 years of age, in a state of vulnerability.

Article 18 establishes that “a subsidy will be granted based on the lack or financial situation of the family from the moment of diagnosis of the disease until the end of the treatment or the death of the patient, and the control of the subsidy will be done according to regulations of the regulation of this Law”.

The subsidy may include what is necessary for the transportation and lodging of the patient and a person in charge at the place of treatment.

Likewise, the provincial Oncology program was established as the competent body to carry out the administrative procedures corresponding to the granting of subsidies and in charge of control and inspection.
