Government authorities have highlighted the positive results that the curfew has brought in the 29 communes that have been affected in recent weeks by forest fires.
And it is that after four nights under this measure, it has been possible to keep the accidents under control. An example of this is the Biobío region, which after being the most affected area with 190,000 hectares consumed, has had a positive balance, since no new sources of fires have been registered.
The person who positively assessed the facts was the Minister of Public Works Juan Carlos García, who pointed out that the figure of 12 fires in combat and 15 controlled remained. “We have gone three days without new sources of fire, which is good news, because the deterrent measures have been working,” he added.
In addition, he assured that “in practice it means that when there are no new outbreaks, brigade members and firefighters can focus and work in those places where the fires are most intense.”
Regarding compliance with the curfew by citizens, Jorge Keite, Head of National Defense of Biobío, explained that “the patrols are both daytime and night, that is, we not only focus on the curfew, but also preventive patrols are day and night; all combatants have technological equipment”.
It should be noted that the curfew will remain in force until the Heads of National Defense deem it necessary. Despite the good results, for the moment it was ruled out adding other communes to the restrictive measure.
