University of Piura announces the VII edition of the Lima Summer School of Economics 2023

From February 27 to March 10, 2023, the VII edition of the Lima Summer School of Economics will be held, which will offer advanced courses in applied, face-to-face and online.

Organized by the Lima School of Economics of the Department of Economics of the University of Piura (UDEP), in collaboration with the Vancouver School of Economics of the University of British Columbia, the event is held annually. Since its first edition, in 2016, more than 300 economists from Peru, Latin America, the United States and Europe have participated in the program.

We are very happy to be able to offer young economists from the best universities in Peru, Latin America, and the rest of the world, the enriching academic environment offered by our Summer School.”, said Marcos Agurto, director of the Summer School and professor at the UDEP.

He added: “As in every year, we will offer participants a world-class academic experience, a unique collaborative environment with leading international researchers, and the opportunity to experience one of the most vibrant and dynamic cities on the Pacific coast of South America.”.

Courses to be taught

Among the courses that will be taught is Machine Learning for the Economy, which will be held in person and will be in charge of Dr. Vadim Marner, Graduate Director of the Vancouver School of Economics. It will take place from February 28 to March 3.

The course Differences in differences: fundamentals and new methodology It will be held from March 6 to 9, in person. It will be taught by Sebastian Tello–Trillo, Assistant Professor of Public Policy and Economics at the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy at the University of Virginia.

Emerging challenges for inclusive and sustainable development It will be offered from February 27 to March 3, in person. The person in charge will be Susana Carrillo, a global consultant with more than 20 years of experience working with global organizations in economic-social development and governance (ESG), in addition, she is an adjunct professor at George Mason University.

The fourth course will be advanced mathematics for economists, which will be held virtually, from March 10 to 17. It will be in charge of Dr. Jorge Catepillán, member of the Lima School of Economics.
