They demand freedom in Nicaragua for 35 prisoners who were not released and sent to the US

Relatives of 35 prisoners who were not released by the Nicaraguan government and sent to the United States last week asked the international community on Tuesday to press for all of them to be released.

In the group is the Catholic bishop Rolando Álvarez, whom the authorities of the Central American country they condemned friday to 26 years and four months in jail, one day after he refused to get on a plane along with 221 other prisoners who were released and sent to washington.

“Our relatives were on the official list of political prisoners and were not taken into account for their release,” denounced the relatives of the prisoners, at a press conference in Managua.

President Daniel Ortega said on Thursday, after the mass release, that two of them had not wanted to board the aircraft and four were rejected by Washington. The six are on the list of 35 people of the so-called Committee of Relatives of Political Prisoners and Prisoners.

The complainants assured that the prisoners are in isolation cells without access to visitors. Reuters could not immediately obtain comment from the government.
