On Monday morning, after waking up, Cardinal Toribio Ticona suffered a fall due to a slip in his bedroom, the event was taken as an accident and did not go any further, however, this Tuesday the pain increased and it was decided to take the Cardinal to a hospital where they discovered that he had fractured three ribs.
“We have brought him to the Obrero hospital and then he was transferred to the Arco Iris hospital, now all the preliminary analyzes have been done and more assessments have to be made; at this moment the Cardinal is stable”, explained the Cardinal’s secretary, Father Pablo Ponce, to Rede Uno.
In May 2018 the Bishop of Corocoro, Toribio Ticona was appointed by His Holiness Pope Francis as the new Bolivian Cardinal, He is the first Cardinal of indigenous origin, was born in the potosina town of Atocha. Bolivia so far had two cardinals, Julio Terrazas, who died in 2015, and now Toribio Ticona.
Father Pablo Ponce reported that Cardenal Its home is the National Center for Integrated Training (Cenafi), a Catholic establishment located two blocks from Plaza Murillo, where he has lived since 2013. Teachers and children are trained in this center, as there is also a school.
Father Pablo explained that after the fall, the Cardinal himself ruled out going to a hospital and he preferred to rest, however, this Tuesday he felt severe discomfort on the left side of the body and they decided to consult the hospital, and when the first tests were carried out they realized the severity of it, “he has three fractured ribs”, recounted the secretary of the Cardinal.
A second evaluation meeting of the medical board that is attending him is scheduled for this Wednesday and they will have greater results, for the moment It was decided that he should be admitted to this hospital which is in the eastern part of the city of La Paz.
