Hero without cape: Firefighters pay tribute to young man who transported volunteers by boat to fight forest fires

In the parade for the 170 years of Firefighters, Lucas Céspedes was the center of the celebration for the tribute paid to him by the Valdivia Fire Department for helping volunteers cross the Futa River, Los Ríos region, to put out forest fires .

A few days ago, a video was released in which the 13-year-old boy takes four firefighters volunteers on the Futa River in a boat, until they manage to cross it in order to get water. For this year, he was called a “hero without a cape” on social networks.

At the event, the presenter pointed out that Lucas “rowed from end to end, of his own free will, with gallantry and without hesitation.”

“Lucas, the Firefighters of Chile thank you and urge you to continue your studies, to continue enjoying childhood, to continue being a good son, citizen and taking care of your siblings and family,” they indicated in the speech.

“From now on we invite you to join our institution so that you become a future firefighter” they added.

“Acts like these, although risky and difficult at his age, where he should only enjoy his childhood and studies, give us strength and encourage us as firefighters to continue working,” they concluded.
