Much of Argentina has just finished one of the hottest weeks of this summer and despite the fact that this Monday there are rains and storms in several provinces, the SMN (National Meteorological Service) maintains an alert for high temperatures.
As detailed by the agency, Mendoza remains under red alert for high temperatures; while Corrientes, Entre Ríos, Córdoba, San Luis, San Juan, La Pampa and Buenos Aires continue under orange alert due to the intense heat.
Similarly, a yellow warning applies for high temperatures for Santa Fe, Santiago del Estero, Córdoba, San Luis, Tucumán, Catamarca and La Rioja. Alert levels mean that temperatures can cause health effects.
In this way, the heat will be felt especially in the central and northern areas of the country. As reported by the SMN, this Monday maximum temperatures of 41°C are expected in Santiago del Estero, 39°C in Corrientes, 37°C in Tucumán, 34°C in Entre Ríos, 32°C in Salta and 31°C in both CABA like in Mendoza.
In this sense, it is recommended to take precautions to avoid heat stroke, which occurs when the body exceeds 39°C for a long time, which in turn causes excessive sweating, a feeling of suffocation, dry skin, exhaustion , dizziness or fainting, stomach pains, lack of appetite, nausea or vomiting.
Meanwhile, a yellow alert is also in effect for Jujuy, Salta, Tucumán, Catamarca, Mendoza, San Luis, Córdoba, Neuquén, La Pampa and Buenos Aires due to storms. In addition, on the Buenos Aires coast, storms could occur “accompanied by gusts, significant electrical activity, occasional hail and abundant waterfalls in short periods of time,” according to the agency.
According to the forecasts of the SMN, the heat intense will persist, at least until the night of next Wednesday, February 15, when a drop in temperature is expected due to the entry of fresh air.

For the first time in more than 60 years, the City of Buenos Aires reached a record temperature for the month of February, as this Sunday, a maximum of 39°C was reached.
However, the wind chill rose to 42°C, with 37% humidity. “This is the highest temperature recorded in February for the City of Buenos Aires since 1961,” according to the SMN.
