After three months of having registered an explosion in the PH Urbana, located in Obarrio, the Patronage of the Meritorious Fire Department of the Republic of Panama (BCBRP) finally revealed the reason that caused this accident that left 20 injured.
On the afternoon of this Monday, February 13, the Secretary of the Board of Trustees and general director of the entity, Abdiel Solís, explained that the reason for the chemical explosion in the Urbana PH, registered on November 1, 2022, was the gas leak from the apartment 12c-2 on the 12th floor.
Solís indicated that the type of gas detected was liquefied urban petroleum, and also pointed out that this explosion was classified as a deflagration.
In November, experts from the Public Ministry, the Fire Department, the Technological University of Panama, and the private sector carried out hermeticity tests in the Urbana building on Calle 45 Obarrio, to find the reason for the explosion. Three months later the authorities revealed the results of these investigations.
After this investigation and due to the number of inspection requests for occupancy permits, the Fire Department Board decided to present a proposal to regulate natural or legal persons that can carry out these inspections following the Procedure Manual of the Panama Fire Department.
