Panama City (EFE).- Agents of the National Aeronaval Service (Senan) and the Public Ministry of Panama (MP, Prosecutor’s Office), seized 1,159 packages of an undetermined drug and arrested 9 people allegedly linked to the illicit substance, in 2 operations carried out in the Panamanian Pacific.
In one of the operations, the units of the National Aero-anaval Service seized 918 packages of a drug inside a boat, of unknown type or weight, east of Punta Mala, a relief located southeast of the Azuero peninsula in the province central Los Santos, reported this Saturday the security entity on its social networks.
In this anti-drug action, five subjects who were traveling in the intercepted boat with the drug shipment were arrested.
In a second operation, Senan troops seized a total of 241 drug packages south of Juan Hombrón beach in the central province of Coclé, also on the Pacific coast, within the framework of the so-called “Operation Alpha.”
In addition to the drug, four people were arrested in this operation and two boats were seized.
Panama is used as a bridge for drugs that are produced in South America and whose main destination is the United States, the largest consumer of cocaine in the world, as well as Europe.
The Central American country seized in 2022 the historic figure of 138.41 tons of drugs, of which 108.82 were cocaine, according to figures from the Prosecutor’s Office. EFE
