[ENTREVISTA] Luis Gonzales Posada: "Martín Vizcarra urged me a lot to talk to Alan García"

The former Minister of Foreign Relations during the Aprista government narrated the moment in which Martin Vizcarra asked for the support of Alan García to achieve the vacancy of Peter Paul Kuczynski (PPK).

How did Martín Vizcarra contact you?

Miguel Arbulú (Vizcarra’s former adviser) called me one day to tell me that Vizcarra wanted to talk to me urgently. He missed me because I didn’t know him. He told me that he didn’t know what it was about. (…) It was between 3 or 5 days before the last vacancy motion. I am not sure of the date. So, the next day Arbulú called him and handed me the phone. He told me that he had sought me out because he knew about my relationship with Alan and that he wanted to convey a message to him. (…) He told me that he wanted García’s support if the vacancy occurred.

What did you answer him?

I told him that it was not necessary to ask for his support because the APRA parliamentarians, if that event occurred, would vote for the constitutional succession. (…) He urged me to talk to the president, and he told me that he was very grateful to him. That same morning I called Alan and told him that he wanted to send him an order and he told me to go to his house.

What did Garcia tell you?

He told me which Vizcarra? I told him: the one who is vice president and he told me that, when Haya de la Torre was running for the 1979 Constituent Assembly, he commissioned Alan to propose the candidate for the constituent assembly in Moquegua. And the only one who mobilized the party was Vizcarra’s father, who was elected.

And about your order?

He replied: “very well what you have told him”. In addition, he said, “he is obviously conspiring against Kuczynski.” And he added, “this is going to be inevitable, poor country! If Vizcarra comes to power, poor Peru. You don’t know what he is capable of. I am telling it because I have been surprised to see on Jaime Chincha’s program that he has never talked to me, and he knows that he has talked to me. That shows the high level of mythomania of him.
