Bernal announces security operation in Táchira to "protect the industry"

The deputy Karim Vera denounced that the commercial activity in Táchira was conditioned by the illegal activities that continued to be carried out in the border areas, especially by irregular crossings that the Chavista government did not control in the entity governed by Bernal

The governor of Táchira, Freddy Bernal, announced the deployment of a “permanent special security operation” on the border with Colombia, with emphatic patrolling of the irregular crossings known as “trochas”, which would aim to reduce activities illegal in the border area.

“We have deployed a special permanent security operation on the border, especially at irregular crossings, with the participation of 80 officials from the DAET (Division Against Organized Crime of the Bolivarian National Police) Táchira, who will patrol urban, commercial and industrialists,” Bernal posted on his Twitter account.

The publication was accompanied by photographs and videos of police officers, vehicles and equipment that would be implemented as part of this operation that would seek to protect the economic activity of Táchira.

According to Bernal, Táchira is “one of the safest states in the country” thanks to the joint work of civilians, the military, and the police. This premise goes hand in hand with the figures from the Venezuelan Violence Observatory (OVV)since it has the fifth lowest rate of violent deaths, only ahead of Lara, Cojedes, Nueva Esparta and Yaracuy.

Despite its position compared to other states, a rate of 23 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants is still a record high. In addition, during 2022 there was an increase in this rate compared to 2021.

On the other hand, criminal activities on the border persist, as do the illegal crossings that Bernal promised to control after the opening of the official crossing that connects Táchira with the North of Santander, more than four months ago.

Hours before the deployment of the operation, the deputy of the National Assembly (AN) elected in 2015, Karim Vera denounced that illegal trade reigns on the Táchira borderwhich impedes the economic growth of the entity.

Now Bernal announces this operation that is supposedly focused on the protection of commerce, industry and urban planning in the Andean state.
