Experts will carry out in-depth analysis of the airspace law, announces the Senate

The initiative of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador that creates the Air Space Protection Law, already approved by the deputies, will be modified in the Senate, announced the coordinator of Morena, Ricardo Monreal.

The draft with the reform that transfers control of airspace from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport to the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) will be thoroughly analyzed and will not be processed fast trackbecause a discussion will be opened and even the officials of the departments involved will be summoned to appear, he specified.

In the UNAM’s master’s chair in law, the also president of the Political Coordination Board specified that airspace is a specialized matter, about which not everyone has knowledge and, therefore, it is a highly specialized law.

What we want is not to rush the ruling, although it is urgent, but we are going to pass it on to the ruling committees, which will be able to convene experts in the field of airspace so that the legislator regulates his criteria at the moment of approving or not the law or modify the content of that minute that comes from the Chamber of Deputies.

Monreal explained that when reviewing the minutes one day before, he found that it would be necessary to make modifications to adapt or improve the law. But it is convenient that we convene and make appear public officials who are related to the matter.

The Mexican Air Space Protection Law, proposed by the President, was approved by the plenary session of San Lázaro last Tuesday with 263 votes in favor, 26 against and 195 abstentions.

The ordinance indicates that the airspace will be protected by the Sedena through the Navigation Services in the Mexican Airspace. Likewise, the National System of Surveillance and Protection of the Mexican Air Space is created, which will be made up of the Sedena and the secretariats of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport, of the Navy and the Interior, in order for the federal Executive to guarantee the surveillance and protection of the air space.
