Deputy Reisch raised concerns about people who commit crimes and are "circulating freely" due to lack of tax resolution

Deputy Nibia Reisch was received on this Friday the 10th by the Attorney General of the Nation, Dr. Juan Gómez.

He raised to know the progress that was made after the meetings held by the Prosecutor’s Office with the Ministry of the Interior, SCJ and other actors in the legislative field.

Reisch conveyed to the Prosecutor the discomfort that exists in organized society and residents of Cologne regarding the delay so that people who have been brought before the Justice for being alleged perpetrators of crimes, are summoned and subjected in sum to the judicial process to settle your situation.

The deputy expressed that she is concerned about the difficulty that the practice entails on the part of the Prosecutors in ordering summonses and especially the high number of summonses without a date, that for serious crimes such as robbery, seizures, domestic violence, sexual crimes, shooting with firearms, only in Cologne, constitute 71% of the cases.

“In the period June-October/2022 there were 86 defendants in the department of Colonia alone and 61 of them are at liberty waiting to be summoned by the Prosecutor’s Office,” said the legislator.

“They are at large, circulating freely, without being summoned to appear in a process where they can prove their innocence or where their guilt is proven in a process that, well, in our law is highly guaranteeing for the accused. This not only generates the astonishment of the population, but also their discomfort at the same time that it sends a very bad message to the criminal, discourages the police and does nothing to reduce crime in Cologne, ”he added.

Prosecutor Gómez said he was aware of the problem and was widely receptive. He stated that the Prosecutor’s Office will intensify the training of prosecutors and that it will recommend prosecutors in this regard, so that -without actually invading their technical independence- they avoid maintaining this practice of summons.
