Silvia Monteza, from Acción Popular, is elected as the new second vice president of Congress

Legislator Silva Monteza replaces Digna Calle, who decided to resign from office due to the blocking of early elections in Parliament.

Choice. the congresswoman Silva Monteza, of People’s Action, is elected as the new second vice president of the Congress of the Republic. Indeed, with 67 votes in favour, the parliamentarian takes the oath of the new position on the Board of Directors, chaired by José Williams, who convened a new plenary session this Friday, February 10.

Silvia Monteza was chosen after competing with Alfredo Azurin, from Somos Perú, who obtained 27 votes in the second round. In the first round were three other congressmen: Isabel Cortez (Democratic Change), Jose Maria Balcazar (Peru Bicentennial) and Elizabeth Medina (Teacher’s Block).

Monteza Facho replaces congresswoman Digna Calle, from Podemos Peru, who “irrevocably” resigned from the second vice presidency of the Board of Directors, as a result of the Constitution Commission will send to file the project of the Government of President Dina Boluarte on the advancement of general elections to October 2023.

the same Joseph Williams maintained that the Board of Directors decreed “the vacancy for the second vice presidency of Congress”, by Digna Calle, so the new member would be chosen in the next session this Friday.

On the other hand, Podemos Peru announced that it “will not support any candidate” for the second vice presidency of Congress. This decision is made because the parliamentary group “demands the election of a new Board of Directors that generates consensus to get out of the crisis.”
