The council of councilors of the city council of Santiago told the former Minister of Public Health, Plutarco Ariasas distinguished son from the city.
The recognition to prominent doctor is contained in resolution 3316-23unanimously approved by the councilors.
The motion was presented by councilor Frank Medina, of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), who in his motivations highlighted Arias’s legacy, both personally and professionally.
He defined him as a worthy and authentic representative of medicine, social work and the struggle to solve the country’s problems.
In addition, the mayor appreciated the firm and successful fight of the former official against the coronavirus pandemic, as well as other diseases.
The parchment that heor declares as Distinguished Son he was received by Plutarco Arias from a commission of councilors from the different benches, headed by the president of the building council, Ambiorix González.
The current president of the Dominican Society of Pneumology and Thoracic Surgery thanked the Council of Aldermen for such a high honor.
Arias stated that the recognition obliges him to continue working for an improvement in the health of the population, mainly the most impoverished sectors of the Dominican population.
At the event, the former Minister of Public Health was accompanied by his wife, Yolanda Peña de Arias, their children and other relatives.
Political leaders and health professionals also attended.
