“Pro-rights” activists and legislators reject approval of the Penal Code without three grounds

Activistas y legisladores “proderechos” rechazan aprobación Código Penal sin tres causales

Following the approval at first reading of the Penal Code In the Senate of the Republic, various sectors have expressed their rejection for not including the three grounds.

The activist for women’s rights and equality, Sergia Galvanthreatened to take to the streets, citing the camp that was set up for a few months in front of the National Palace of the Presidency as an example.

“We are going to the street. Just as we made a camp that lasted more than three months in front of the National Palace, we are going to the streets. It is a matter of health, it is not a matter of life, it is a matter of rights”, said Galván.

On her side, the member of the Citizen Participation movement, Leidy Blanco Garcialamented the condition in which women would be left in this discussion of the Penal Code.

“Women continue to be made invisible and it is a reflection of the discussion that is taking place now in the Penal Code,” said Blanco García.

Meanwhile, the senator for Puerto Plata, Ginette Bournigalpointed out that the power of dedication should belong to the woman and not to other sectors.

“It is the power to say yes or no that we want, it is not that the church decides, nor someone who does not have the power to be a woman for us,” Bournigal said.

It is remembered that yesterday the Senate of the Republic approved in first reading the controversial Penal Code, reason for which it will be known in the next session already in second reading.

The vote had 23 votes in favor and another four against of the 27 present.
