With an investment of US$ 10 million, the Paysandú air terminal became part of Aeropuertos Uruguay

The company Uruguayan airports celebrated the inauguration of the fifth air terminal that becomes part of the group: International Airport of Paysandú “Tydeo Larre Borges”.

This fact is part of the development of the National System of International Airports (SINAI).

In an event, which was attended by the Minister of National Defense, Javier García, the Secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado, the mayor of Paysandú, Nicolás Olivera; and representatives of Uruguay Airports, the company announced an investment of around US$ 10 million for the modernization works, and shared the plan he has for the development of the Paysandú Airport.

The works will be inaugurated in the second semester of 2024, and will include the construction of a new passenger terminalas well as the renovation of the airport infrastructure: resurfacing of the runway, taxiway, construction of a new apron, installation of an automatic weather station, a new fuel plant, perimeter fence and road, as well as apron lighting and runway beaconing with LED technology, a fiber optic perimeter ring for communications, among others.

The objective of the works is to bring the Paysandú airport to international standards established by the regulations of the International Civil Aviation Organization. In this sense, it is expected that it can have all the permits for regional and international operation.

It is an honor to carry out a strategic project for the country in an industry that provides opportunity in so many sectors. The takeover of the Paysandú International Airport is one more step to make our goal of developing a solid national airport network a reality, which will strengthen the country’s connectivity and be a development engine,” said the CEO of Uruguay Airports, Diego Arrosa. .

During his speech, the Minister of National Defense, Javier García, stressed that This is one more example of a country that is growing and generating jobs. By the way, he explained that The work will generate between 100 and 150 direct jobs, as well as indirect ones.

Besides, The chief recalled that this new investment is added to the almost US$70 million investment that SINAI will have in its different operations, and considered that the remodeling of several airports around the country favors decentralization.

Within the framework of the development of SINAI, Aeropuertos Uruguay —which also manages the Carrasco and Punta del Este Airports—, assumed the commitment to modernize six airports in the interior of the country located in Carmelo, Rivera, Salto, Melo, Peach and Paysandú.
