On the morning of this February 9, more than 222 political prisoners of the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo were exiled from Nicaragua, as confirmed by Article 66 a source on condition of anonymity.
According to the information, the group, which represents more than 80% of those detained by the regime, would have been transferred from the different Nicaraguan prisons and the Directorate of Judicial Assistance (DAJ) in Managua to the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport in a flight to Washington DC
The flight took off at 06:31 in the morning (local time) and will arrive in the US capital at 11:33 this Thursday, that is, 10:33 in Nicaragua.
Although no one from the US government or the US Embassy in Managua have confirmed the news, the former Nicaraguan ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS) Arturo McFields said through a video on his Twitter account that “a source from the Department of State” of the United States had confirmed the release and expulsion of the Nicaraguan prisoners.
“Those who were willing to come (to Washington) came, including priests,” McFields explained in his video, without specifying the names of those who would have accepted exile and those who refused to leave for the United States.
Another source explained to Article 66 that a medical team is in Washington ready to care for the prisoners, who have spent years imprisoned in different Nicaraguan prisons under extreme conditions of isolation, lack of food and without receiving medical attention for their ailments.
The relatives of the political prisoners are still waiting to find out who the prisoners who were exiled from the country are and have preferred, for now, not to give statements so as not to risk the arrival of the plane at the Washington airport. In addition, there is uncertainty about relatives, particularly they do not know who could reject the offer of exile.
