Nicaragua frees more than 200 political prisoners: sources

More than 200 political prisoners are being released in Nicaragua this Thursday, reported family and political sources inside and outside the Central American nation.

The newspaper The Press He quoted the wife of the political prisoner Félix Maradiaga, Berta Valle, who would have received the news of the release of confirmation from the State Department on the release of more than 200 political prisoners who have been sent to the United States.

In a video message on his Twitter account, the former Nicaraguan ambassador to the OAS, Arturo McFields confirmed the news, indicating that 222 have been released.

“Confirmed, excellent news this morning…222 political prisoners have been released and are on their way to Washington,” McFields said.

The National Assembly of Nicaragua convened an extraordinary session this Thursday.

The voice of america requested information from the US Department of State, but so far has not received a response.

According to the flightaware.com website, a US Air International, LLC charter flight left Nicaragua at 6:30 am and will land at Dulles airport at 11:30 am.
