The rains that hit the state of Rio de Janeiro since last night caused the death of at least 6 people. The most recent took place today (8) in the municipality of Saquarema, in the Lagos Region. A 27-year-old woman was struck by lightning. In the metropolitan area, a 31-year-old woman was the victim of an electric shock in Niterói. In São Gonçalo, a landslide hit a 22-year-old girl, and a man was dragged by the current and could not resist.
In the capital, a 2-year-old girl died buried in Chácara do Céu, in Alto da Boa Vista. The other death was that of an 82-year-old man, after a rockslide near the Tavares Bastos community, in Catete. According to the Rio City Hall’s Operations Center, the city is still in the mobilization stage, the second level on a scale of five. The forecast is for moderate to heavy rain in the coming hours.
State government
At the end of today’s afternoon (8), Governor Cláudio Castro released an updated report from the Fire Department, which recorded 330 incidents related to the rains. Among them, 113 floods and floods, 77 rescues of trapped or stranded people and 39 landslides and landslides. Castro met with the State Government’s Rainfall Committee to plan actions in the most affected municipalities, but announced few measures to respond to the damage caused by the storms.
“We are going to discuss how to formalize aid to municipalities within the legal rules, as city halls need to enact states of emergency. The state government is studying the issue of a decree to formalize the need for municipalities to enact (states of emergency) more quickly. In the meantime, immediately, we are going to create a line of credit to help small entrepreneurs recover their businesses”.
