César Fernández describes the decree on the importation of firearms as "inconsistent"

Santo Domingo. The member of the Political Directorate of the People’s Force, César Fernández, described Decree 30-23, issued by the Executive Power, as incoherent. This measure authorizes the importation of firearms and ammunition for civilian and exclusive use by private security companies.

In a message posted on his Twitter account, the political leader criticized the government, saying it was improvised.

“The inconsistency of the PRM government is impressive, at first we are going to disarm the population, now “come in”, guns, rifles, shots, God save us.” These were the expressions of the also national propaganda secretary.

Fernández specified that on July 24, 2006, through Decree 309-96, President Leonel Fernández prohibited the importation of firearms, parts and their respective ammunition for individuals. The Armed Forces, National Police and other institutions related to national security were exempt.

Citizen security strategy and weapons

He said that on Monday, March 22, 2021, the government announced to the country the start of the first phase of the Comprehensive Strategy for Security citizen. This measure included removing illegal weapons from the streets and confronting intra-family violence. This seeks to reduce deaths from traffic accidents and prevent crimes committed from motorcycles.

Finally, he said he was surprised by the actions of the current authorities and the sudden changes in the measures adopted.
