MIAMI, United States. — The Farmers team fell for the sixth consecutive time in the 2023 Caribbean Series, and ended his performance in the baseball contest that takes place in Venezuela.
On this occasion, the executioners of Cuba were the Federales de Chiriquí, a representative cast of Panama, who disposed of the Antilleans with a score of 10 runs to four.
The Istmeños decided the game with a bunch of five scores in the third inning, four of them against starter Leandro Martínez. The key shot was a three-run double by center fielder Jhonny Santos.
The Panamanian team hit again in the fifth inning with a double by outfielder Jhadiel Santamaría that propelled second baseman Michael Wielansky and hit by infielder Jorge Bishop to drive in Joseph De Luca.
The Federales de Chiriquí sealed the game in the top part of the ninth inning with another three scores.
Cuba opened the scoring in the first inning with a sacrifice fly by Roel Santos and added three more in the seventh with RBI hits from Santos himself, Yordanis Alarcón and Yuniesky Larduet.
The victory went to pitcher Harold Arauz, who allowed just one run in six innings, with five hits and three strikeouts.
For Farmers, in addition to the starter and loser Leandro Martínez, Carlos René Santana, Yunier Castillo, Alexander Valiente, Ángel Pérez Sánchez, Alberto Pablo Civil and Yoel Mogena passed through the mound. Together they allowed 15 hits, walked 11 and struck out nine.
Cuba could only win its first game of the Caribbean Series, against WildCats KJ74, which ended in extra innings with a score of three runs to one. The rest were losses against Tigres del Licey (3-1), Leones de Caracas (20-3), Cañeros de los Mochis (6-5), Vaqueros de Montería (5-4), Indios de Mayagüez (4-3 ) and Federales de Chiriquí (10-4).
