Venezuela sent rescue team to Türkiye and Syria

Venezuela sent a team from the Air Search and Rescue Service (SAR) to Turkey, with the aim of supporting the search, location and rescue of people walled up by landslides caused after the 7.8 earthquake on the Richter scale, which last Monday caused the death of thousands of people in Turkey and Syria.

The information was provided by the Venezuelan ambassador to Turkey, José Bracho, who met at the Emergency Response Coordination Center with his Turkish counterpart, Sevki Mütevellioglu, to coordinate the reception of SAR equipment that the Maduro government will send to the areas affected by the earthquakes in that country, as reported on its official twitter account by the Venezuelan diplomatic headquarters in Ankara.

The Turkish government has activated an operation with more than 1,000 volunteers and has been receiving support from other international organizations and various countries.

On Tuesday night, the Chancellor of the Republic, Iván Gil, through his Twitter account announced the departure of the humanitarian work group that will provide support in Türkiye in the rescue of the victims of the tragedy that occurred on Monday after the earthquake.

«On behalf of Pdte. @NicolasMaduro and the Venezuelan people, together with Min. @CeballosIchaso1, we say goodbye to a group of the brave Simón Bolívar Humanitarian Work Force, who undertake a valuable task in favor of the victims of the events in Türkiye and Syria,” Gil posted.

Foreign Minister Gil pointed out that the solidarity of the Government of President Nicolás Maduro is once again evident in the face of the effects that the peoples of both nations have suffered.

“We have wanted to show the brigade members, the provision of medicines and food that the Government of Venezuela, through the Simón Bolívar Humanitarian Task Force and our Ministry of the Interior, Justice and Peace, are making available to these sister towns.”

Given the unilateral coercive measures that the United States has imposed on Syria, the foreign minister took advantage of the moment to reiterate the call to the international community “to raise its voice so that the sanctions on the Syrian Arab Republic are immediately lifted because it is the only way to optimize recovery,” he stressed.

“We wish both the people of Türkiye and Syria a speedy recovery, that we find as many lives as possible,” he added.

To this help, the ambassador of Türkiye in Venezuela responded through his Twitter, with a message of thanks to the Venezuelan government for the support.

“Thank you very much to the President @NicolasMaduro, to you and to the brother Venezuelan people. We will not forget the solidarity and friendship of #Venezuela in these difficult times,” reads the message.

The Venezuelan rescue force includes the canine brigade, Los Angeles highway, Civil Protection and Firefighters, among others. Food and medicine were also sent to the affected villages.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake was located 30 kilometers from the city of Gaziantep (south), near the border with Syria.

Likewise, in the northern region of the latter country, where the natural phenomenon was also recorded, dozens of buildings were destroyed and in several areas controlled by the State in Aleppo, Hama and Latakia, as well as in others that are still outside their control. command in Idlib.
According to the Ministry of Health of this Arab nation and rescue teams, the death toll rose to 812 while another 1,448 were injured in the provinces of Aleppo, Latakia, Hama, Tartous and the rural areas of Idlib.

Added to the previous figure are some 300 deaths confirmed by rescue teams working in areas outside government control in Idlib and Aleppo, in what was a highly destructive earthquake that demolished hundreds of buildings and houses.
