President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and First Lady Janja Lula da Silva left the hotel where they were staying, in the center of Brasília, and spent the night for the first time at the Alvorada Palace. 
The couple’s move to their official residence took place earlier this Monday evening (6th), after a trip to Rio de Janeiro, where they participated in a series of political commitments.
In the first days after taking office, Alvorada underwent inspections and sweeps, carried out by the Federal Police, to ensure that there were no bugs in the place. The bomb squad participated in sweep procedures.
Subsequently, some repairs had to be made both to the structure of the building and to the furniture. The first lady reported, in an interview, having found some furniture damaged, as well as infiltration problems.
In December, even before taking office, the then member of the transition team and current Chief of Staff, Rui Costa, had informed that the change would take place after the “survey of all pending items and all measures taken for any necessary repairs to the properties”.
