The Ministry of the Environment (minam) has a new head after the renewal of the Ministerial Cabinet carried out by President Pedro Castillo after the resignation of Mirtha Vásquez to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM).
The new Environment Minister is Wilber Dux Supo Quisocala, who was sworn in “for a new Constitution” and will be part of the cabinet led by Congressman Héctor Valer. He will replace Rubén Ramírez in office, questioned in previous weeks for irregular hiring in his sector.
Supo is a Geography graduate from the National University of San Marcos. Likewise, he applied to the Congress of the Republic for the 2021 elections for the ruling party Peru Libre.
Supo will assume the Environment portfolio in the midst of the environmental disaster that occurred in the Ventanilla Sea due to the oil spill at the La Pampilla Refinery, in charge of Repsol.
Previously, Ramírez announced the stoppage of hydrocarbon loading and unloading operations at the refinery, considering that “no clear cleaning and remediation actions have been evidenced in the face of the disaster caused.”
The measure will be lifted when a Management Plan for Hydrocarbon Spills at Sea and the updated certifications by the competent authorities that guarantee the operation of the terminals are presented to the Environmental Assessment and Enforcement Agency (OEFA).
