Humberto Moreira rejects Villarreal’s statements in the García Luna trial

Humberto Moreira rejects Villarreal's statements in the García Luna trial

Hours later, Moreira published a clarifying note on his Facebook account, in which he assured that Villarreal’s statements “do not reflect reality” and lack evidence.

Moreira maintained that, by testifying in the trial against García Luna, Villarreal seeks a prison benefit, since he faces a sentence in San Antonio, Texas for money laundering.

“I am sorry to observe such a crazy story by a criminal, Mr. Héctor Javier Villarreal,” said the PRI member.

He added that he always had disagreements with Felipe Calderón and, therefore, it is “unthinkable that he had a close relationship with his main collaborator, Mr. García Luna.” He even argued that he refused to work with the Secretary of Security for that six-year term.

Humberto Moreira also denied that he had held collaboration meetings with García Luna and that the latter was trying to sell him the spy system called Pegasus or that he was asking him to give bribes to El Universal to clean up the image of the “super policeman.”

“Mr. Javier Villarreal has committed perjury in a Court. He has been mocking the US authorities for years. I have not committed any illegal act, nor has any investigation been carried out in different jurisdictions into my actions while I held a position of political responsibility”, Moreira asserted.
