Havana Cuba. – From the maximum rigor Combinado del Este penitentiary, the Cuban Alexander Guillermo Martínez Amoroso demands that his case be reviewed by the competent authorities because, according to him, he was convicted without evidence as a protester of 12J, despite not having participated in the popular protests that took place on July 12, 2021 in La Güinera.
As previously disclosed to CubaNeton July 12, 2021, the prisoner was visiting a friend’s house in the town of La Guinera, belonging to the Arroyo Naranjo municipality, and was caught in the middle of the wave of violence unleashed against the demonstrators by local leaders and members of the Army, the Special Troops, the Rapid Response Brigades and other agents of the repressive organs. In addition to being imprisoned, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison for the alleged crime of sedition.
Through a phone call, Martínez Amoroso pointed out that he has been in prison for almost a year and seven months. He also emphasized that during this period he has raised his case in all the competent instances of the State, but he has not obtained a satisfactory response from any of them, therefore he requests that his situation be made known to the public opinion.
Likewise, he stressed that he had no participation in the protests of July 2021 and is asking for help to resolve his situation because, he points out, he is the father of two young children who are helpless while he remains in prison.
Alexander Guillermo Martinez Amoroso was Judge on December 14, 15 and 16, 2021 in the room for Crimes Against State Security belonging to the Popular Municipal Court of Diez de Octubre.
In an earlier call, he assured CubaNet that the alleged evidence presented by the repressors at the trial had been a photo in which he appeared at his friend’s house. In addition, he stressed that this person even appeared in court as a witness on his behalf to corroborate that Martínez Amoroso was visiting his home, however this testimony was not considered by the authorities.
