Haiti installs body aimed at pacifying the country and organizing elections

Port-au-Prince (EFE).- The Prime Minister of HaitiAriel Henry, proceeded this Monday to the official investiture of the three members of the High Council of the Transition (HCT, in French) that will have for mission work together with the Government in the pacification of the country, as well as in the organization of general elections.

“With the taking of possession official this morning from the members of the High Transition Council, this is the beginning of the end of the dysfunction of our institutions democratic“said the head of government.

Henry thanked HCT members for agreeing to “engage” with the Government in the “noble” and “ungrateful” task of “serving our country” in these difficult times.

On January 1st, Henry announced the creation of the HCT so that drive to the country for an “inclusive transition and transparent elections”.

“It is a trigger that invites all Haitians, whether from here or abroad, to join their efforts for the change that we all ask for,” he added.

“You can count on collaboration of all without exception,” he said, stressing that it is “a dynamic that, since the agreement of December 21, 2022, is about to mark the history of the nation.”

This installation has its origin in the agreement of December 21, 2022, known as the National Consensus for an Inclusive Transition, which was highly criticized by various social and political sectors.

For his part, the Canadian ambassador to Haiti, Sebastien Carriere, stated that the inauguration of the members of the High Council of the Transition marks the start of work to implement the roadmap for the elections. The diplomat called for a broad consensus around the HCT.

Haiti is immersed in a deep political, economic and security crisis.
