The Judiciary once again ordered Congress to suspend the election process for the new head of the Ombudsman until the completion of the process of an amparo action that was presented by the Union of Workers of said body.

Judge John Paredes Salas accepted the request made by said union to expand the scope of the precautionary measure issued by his office in June 2022, in which he ordered the suspension of this election process until the merits of this amparo action are resolved. .
“Expand the precautionary measure with respect to its new members, the congressmen: Elvis Vergara, Paul Gutiérrez, Patricia Chirinos, Alejandro Muñante, Luis Alegría, Eduardo Castillo and Idelso García Correa. To which the “order” provided by this court in Resolution No. 1 reaches them,” the document reads. Each legislator was notified at their legal addresses, emails, among others.

After the departure of Walter Gutiérrez, Eliana Revollar temporarily assumed the leadership of the Ombudsman until Parliament determines who will take office. However, the public tender has gone through various stoppages and even some candidates have withdrawn from participating in the process.
The Special Commission sought that the election of the new head of the Ombudsman’s Office be approximately at the end of the first fortnight of next Aprilfollowing the approved schedule.
