CDMX, Mexico.- With a short note of just three paragraphs, the Ministry of the Interior of Cuba confirms the feminicide of Leidy Cod17 years old, in Camalote, located in the Nuevitas municipality, Camagüey province.
“A 50-year-old individual, with poor social behavior and multiple criminal records, killed his 17-year-old ex-partner with the use of bladed weapons, who was seeking shelter in the substation of the National Revolutionary Police of the community.” , says the MININT statement.
The note also adds that as a result “of the response of the forces of internal order, the perpetrator of the event was injured in the lumbar region.” Said response was a shot that occurred after Elesván Hidalgo, 50, cut the body of the teenager twice in front of the officers.
How did the events occur?
CubaNet was able to confirm the following story through two people close to the family, one of whom was with Leidy in the hospital in her last minutes of life.
At dawn on February 4, the young woman was at a party where her ex-partner was found, and there he threatened her.
Frightened, the girl ran to the police station seeking protection and in front of several officers, her victimizer attacked her. Afterwards, one of the policemen pulled the gun from her and shot him in the back.
The attacker underwent surgery and is stable.
“It was very hard to see her like this, with her belly open and turning off in the hospital. He gave her two machete blows, one on her left arm and the other on her abdomen. She barely lived an hour after that man attacked her, ”says the source who spoke with Cubanet.
Several residents have denounced that the perpetrator had a history of violence, as corroborated by the MININT.
“I was very young and had my whole life ahead of me. She was waiting for a claim from her father to go to the United States with her mother. I still can’t assimilate that they did this to him”, says the family friend; who also adds that the external part of the station in Camalote, Camagüey, continues to be stained with Leidy’s blood.
A friend of her parents confirmed to Cubanet that the young woman had a relationship with her attacker, a man in his late 50s, since she was 14. Despite the fact that her parents did not approve, they denounced him and she was a minor, the authorities did nothing. There was a restraining order filed, and Hidalgo violated it without consequences.
A neighbor from Camalote confirmed to the media that today around four in the afternoon will be the burial of the young woman.
