Before the Constitution Commission of Congress, the president of the National Elections Jury (JNE), Jorge Luis Salas Arenas, stated that the general elections can be held on October 8.
In his presentation, Salas Arenas also stressed that both the National Election Jury and the National Office of Electoral Processes estimate that the start of the electoral process with the closure of the complementary voter register would have to be no later than February 20, that is, 230 days before the process itself.
Otherwise, he indicated, the elections will not be possible to be carried out “reasonably.” “That number of days should be clear,” he added.

According to the National Election Board, the schedule prepared by the institution starts on February 20 and if it is not like that, he said, the 230 days will have to be counted from the call for elections.
In his speech, Salas Arenas raised other proposals for reforms or provisions that would have to be prioritized to guarantee the suitability of these elections.
Among them, he mentioned the suspension of the primary elections – “because speed is needed,” he explained, the modification of the date of election day, the approval of incentives for polling station members and the maximum support of the Ministry of Education for the qualification of premises Voting in schools.
