National Museum of Fine Arts honors the legacy of Ernesto Rancaño

The retrospective “Like statues of salt”, made up of more than 30 works by the Cuban painter Ernesto Rancaño, was inaugurated at the National Museum of Fine Arts one year after the death of the notable artist.

The exhibition illustrates the virtuosity and talent in the universe of canvases and brushes that positioned Rancaño in a privileged place in the plastic arts of the island, reviewed Prensa Latina agency.

During the inauguration, the director of Fine Arts, Jorge Fernández, evoked moments of his friendship with Rancaño, who caused him great admiration for his simplicity, humility, passion for art and resilience in the face of the disease that stole his life, reported Prensa latin

For his part, the essayist, researcher and historian Félix Julio Alfonso alluded to an ancient Greek phrase: “the chosen of the gods die young”, a sentence that reaffirmed the creative power of Rancaño and all that he “could have achieved”. added the report.

The exhibition is made up of loans received from private and institutional collections, which show the extensive heritage that Rancaño bequeathed to his family, while including works from the museum’s catalogue, added the National Museum of Fine Arts.

Among the works exhibited are, the institution indicated, even “the last painting on the easel in his studio, which the artist was working on at the time of his death.”

Ernesto Rancaño passed away on February 25, 2021 at the age of 53, a victim of cancer, leaving an influential and distinguishable work in contemporary Cuban plastic arts.
