Forest fires in Chile claim the lives of some 22 people

After the Chilean government, through its president Gabriel Boric, decreed a State of Emergency in the country due to the fierce forest fires that are raging mainly in the south of the country, the authorities reported that the death toll amounts to at least 22 people.

They also noted that a total of 554 injuries are reported in the south-central region of the South American country.

Additionally, through the National Forestry Corporation, they reported that there are 231 active fires, of which 80 are in combat and 151 are controlled.

They explained that 26 fires with Red Alert are maintained in the regions of Ñuble, Biobío and La Araucanía. While the Maule region is under a yellow alert.
