MIAMI, United States. – The Vice President of Honduras, Salvador Nasralla, signed a letter in which various opposition organizations in Cuba ask the democratic presidents of the world to break relations with the regime of the Island and side with the people, in accordance with the text of the letter, to which he had access EFE news agency.
“It is necessary to define which side you belong to for the good of an entire people, a continent and the world,” say the signatories of the letter, who are part of the so-called Republican Alliance.
Among the more than 30 signatories of the Island are the Sakharov Prize Guillermo Farinasfrom FANTU (United Antitotalitarian Forum), and other former political prisoners such as Ángel de Fana, from Plantados, and Pedro Fuentes Cid, from the Cuban Political Prison.
Nasralla, who belongs to the Salvadoran Party of Honduras (PSH), was elected vice president as running mate of the current president of Honduras, Xiomara Castroof the leftist Liberty and Refoundation Party (Libre).
From the international arena, the letter was also signed by the Nicaraguan Ariel Montoya, from the Partido Política Accionaria Organization; J. Bar Levy, president of the Association of Mayors of Central America and the Caribbean; José Arturo Vides Berliez, from the Republican Party of Honduras; José Ignacio Menéndez, of the Dominican National Voluntad Ciudadana Party (PNVC), and Juan Cohen, of the Republican Alliance of the Americas.
In the text of the letter it is stated that “Cuba is a failed state” and that “the Castro military dictatorship has shown that it is not capable of guaranteeing the conditions with which each individual can satisfy their basic necessities of life.”
“Six decades of false promises and congenital inefficiencies, typical of this type of regime, have turned off the light of hope for the Cuban population,” lamented the signatories.
“The chaotic scenario is ideal for a civil war to break out”, since “the dictatorship has closed the democratic and civilized paths that lead to a peaceful solution to the country’s crisis”, they also point out.
On the other hand, the letter insists that the Cuban authorities “sponsor terrorism, drug trafficking and guerrilla wars on an international scale” and especially mentions “support for the Russian Federation in its invasion of Ukraine.”
“Given this situation, we request that your government, democratically elected, ignore the legitimacy of the Cuban dictatorship and break its diplomatic relations immediately,” say the signatories.
“Without a doubt, history will recognize those governments that support the Cuban people in their legitimate right to seek and find their freedom, but those who do not do so will also be repudiated,” they say. “Cuba has the right to be a democratic country and its people to be free, and those who have that gift have the duty to support the change that we Cubans are fighting to achieve,” they conclude.
