MIAMI, United States. — President Miguel Díaz-Canel visited this Thursday at the Latin American Stadium part of the Cuban team that will participate in the V World Baseball Classic.
A video posted on social media by the Cuban Presidency It showed the president greeting and addressing the players in the presence of Orestes Kindelán, historic home run hitter in the National Series and member of the team’s coaching staff.
The president also received a cap and a baseball jersey from the former player from Santiago .
According to Cuban PresidencyDíaz-Canel was interested in the preparation of the team, their expectations for the tournament and the training conditions.
“You can mark a milestone in the history of Cuban baseball in present times and open that path for the future and we want to be able to return to the stellar planes of baseball in the shortest possible time,” said the president.

The first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) said he felt confident in a good performance by the Cuban cast.
“All of Cuba is with you. We have a lot of confidence in you. See you when you return,” Díaz-Canel said.
The V World Baseball Classic will take place between March 8 and 21. Cuba was placed in Group A of the contest along with Taiwan, the Netherlands, Italy and Panama.
The first phase for the Cubans will take place at the Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium, in Taiwan.
For the first time in the history of the World Classic, Cuba summoned players who are active in American Major League organizations, including outfielder Luis Robert Moirán and infielder Yoan Moncada, from the Chicago White Sox; fellow infielder Andy Ibáñez, from the Detroit Tigers; and the pitcher Roenis Elías, of the Chicago Cubs.
