The impulse of the federal work is missing: CMIC Querétaro

Queretaro, Qro. Given the crisis facing the construction industry, the sector lacks the impetus that the development of federal workshighlighted the president of the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry (CMIC) local, Oscar Hale Palacios.

Although the resource allocated to public workhe pointed out, it will never be enough, in the last three years the industry has suffered a decrease in federal works that were carried out in the entity.

The builder explained that the changes in the federal budget for works have been reflected not only in the resources received by municipalities and state agencies in the sector, but also in federal representations.

Federal public works here in Querétaro have been practically very, very, low, compared to other years and it is where we are going to continue insisting, not only on resources that could be sent to municipalities and the state, but also to federal delegations,” he said. hale.

Three years ago, he said, the delegation of the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) received an annual budget of between 600 and 1,000 million pesos, a resource that is currently less.

“There are many federal delegations that have very few resources. In SCT they were used to generating between 600 to 1,000 million pesos a year, now they are not going to even reach 70 million pesos and we have been here for three years now, that is where we could have a great opportunity,” he said.

Regarding the local sphere, the state government plans to spend 7.5% of the total budget on infrastructure, close to 3,872 million pesos, a resource that, although positive, will continue to lack the funding it had from the federal government.

In addition, he stressed that from the state resource the work that has been announced, so far, is only that of Paseo 5 de Febrero, coupled with urbanization works and basic services.

“The state government has made a great effort to almost reach 4,000 million (in infrastructure), but what we are definitely missing is this federal push (…) It is 7.5% of the total budget, which is going to be allocated to works, the works that (the state government) mentions, the only one that says in particular is Paseo 5 de Febrero (…) We see in this budget the direction of a government towards social welfare through infrastructure ”, he deepened.

Before members of the CMICand when questioned about the development of works in the entity, the Secretary of Urban Development and Public Works (Sduop), Fernando González Salinas, noted that previously about 85% of the investments in works were federal, but “currently the remedy that will be exercised is state.”

In this context, the state’s construction industry has been facing a decline since 2018, prior to the effects of the pandemic; These are levels that until November 2022 it has not managed to resume.

From January to November 2022, the value accumulated by construction companies in the entity reported a decrease of 28.7% compared to the same phase of 2019, as well as a drop of 10.2% at an annual rate, expose the results of the National Survey of Companies Construction companies (ENEC).
