Dina Boluarte: "My resignation is not at stake"

The President of the Republic, Dina Bolaurteassured Peru21 that his resignation “is not at stake” if Congress does not approve the project sent by the Executive to anticipate the general elections next October, and asked the Legislature to respond with height to what the people are asking for: “advance elections and let us all go”.

The president’s statements took place during her visit to the Talara Refinery in Piura, where she also described the protests demanding her departure as “anarchic political blackmail.”

“My resignation is not at stake. I know that there is a minimal sector of the population that is generating violence and chaos by demanding the resignation of President Boluarte, but we are not going to give in to that anarchic political blackmail that wants to lead the country into disorder and crisis,” he told the journalists.

On the other hand, he asked Congress to “respond with height” to the legislative initiative that the Executive sent on the advancement of elections.

“Congress already has the legislative initiative that we have sent to it, we only ask it to respond with height to what the people are asking for: early elections and that we all leave,” he asserted.

According to that proposal, the first electoral round would take place in October 2023 and a second round in December, with the aim of reducing the mandate of the current authorities and the handover of command in January 2024.

Asked about the plenary debate that will be resumed this afternoon to analyze the minority opinion of Jaime Quito (Libre Peru), the head of state responded briefly: “I should not advance opinions regarding what I resolve today in the afternoon.”
