FAO admits error in equating Colombia with Haiti in food insecurity

The United Nations Organization for Feeding and Agriculture (FAO) admitted errors in his report in which he places Colombia on the same map Haiti and African countries in terms of food insecurity.

Colombian media attribute the agency’s representative in that South American country, Alan Bojanic, with the statement that his investigation does not reflect reality.

Calling the report unfair, yesterday the Government of Colombia formally urged the FAO to remove that nation from the place on the map where it appears alongside countries like Yemen, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Haitiamong others.

“It would be unfair not to recognize the Government’s efforts in food security as well as the resources allocated to structural programs on this front. Unfortunately, the report does not reflect this progress. The intention was to attract resources to support migrants, but his presentation was not the best”, said Bojanic, according to the newspaper Caracol.

Colombia It is a country rich in natural resources and, according to international media, it displaced Venezuela as the main South American nation in oil exports.

The Focos de Hambre” report was published last week and following a request from Colombia to review it, FAO accepted the request to “better reflect” the situation.

The FAO warned in the report that 7.3 million people in Colombiawith a population of more than 50 million inhabitants, will need food assistance in 2022 and pointed out that food security risks would arise from a combination of “political instability, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the regional migration crisis and internal displacement.
