The geologist Osiris de León stated that the regional fault (Enriquillo-Plantain Garden) that caused the strong earthquake of magnitude 5.3 on the Richter scale, registered this Wednesday southwest of the bay of Las boilers (Peravia-Baní) and that surprised the entire Dominican population, must be monitored.
«We have to monitor this failure for the next 72 hours to see its behavior,” the specialist recommended during a phone call (yesterday) on the radio program “El Sol de la Tarde.”
De Leon explained that, “Ideally, it should already decrease (the frequency of tremors), but that has to be defined by nature based on the response that the fault gives in the next 48 hours”.
It is recalled that the geologist had stated that the Enriquillo-Plantain Garden faultwas the same that on January 12, 2010 caused the great earthquake of 7.0 in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti.
Osiris de León added through a publication on his social network account Twitterwhich also, on January 6, 2020, also caused an earthquake of magnitude 6.4 in Puerto Rico, and another of 7.2 in Les Cayes (Haiti) on August 14, 2021.
