Pereira looking for a visitor "not protocol" to Lula in Brazil for "a more political contact"

The president of the Broad Front, Fernando Pereira, intends to generate a new meeting with President Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva in Brazil. The leader raised before the Political Table of the left-wing coalition that works in a “non-protocol visit” to establish “a more political contact” with the leader of the Workers’ Party, according to political sources transmitted to The Observer.

Lula visited President Luis Lacalle Pou last Wednesday at Suárez’s residence, where he sought to reconcile with the Uruguayan government the intentions of Mercosur to open up. In the afternoon of that same day, the Brazilian received the “Greenest” distinction from the Municipality of Montevideo (IM), in an act in which he exchanged praise with the community chief Carolina Cosse. The Broad Front called for that event, in which Lula addressed the militants from the balcony of the municipal palace.

The president of Brazil then visited José Mujica at his farm, where he also spoke with the president of the PIT-CNT, Marcelo Abdala, the mayor from the Canary Islands, Yamandú Orsi y Pereira. The MPP leader was the one who introduced Lula to the president of the Broad Front. The Uruguayan left celebrated the assumption of the ex-unionist, with whom they maintain direct contact through Mujica and the analyst Álvaro Padrón, close to the political force.

During his administration, Fernando Pereira has tried to get closer to the left-wing governments of the region, showing special sympathy with the Chilean Gabriel Boric, the Colombian Gustavo Petro and the Mexican Andrés Manuel López Obrador. The ex-unionist met Boric on July 6 at the Palacio de La Moneda.

The Front’s presidency also planned to strengthen ties with the Cuban left, especially with President Miguel Díaz-Canel, although the trip ended up being relegated.
