The president of the Uruguayan Chamber of Tourism, Marina Cantera, assures that only the first 10 days of January were “very good” for the sector, in a year in which a relative new normality is beginning to breathe after two particularly complicated years. for transport and mobility due to the restrictions derived from COVID-19.
“The first 10 days were very good, with some destinations grateful for the situation we were experiencing, but that began to blur on January 10 and the situation began to get complicated fundamentally by (the variant) omicron,” Cantera told the program up people from channel 10.
After those 10 days, he added, cancellations of reservations and flights began to arise, as a consequence of the advance of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. The first cancellations came from abroad and were later made by national tourists. “The month ended with a complete situation,” he said.
For February, continued the hierarch of the Chamber, “large numbers” are not expected.
