Jorge Fernández Era, writer and collaborator of the digital magazine The Young Cubasummoned for an “interview” with State Security for this Monday in Havana, filed a claim for nullity for violation of the Criminal Procedure Law and did not attend the meeting.
The editor has followed the same path as Professor Alina Bárbara López Hernández, coordinator of the same publication, to which the Matanzas Prosecutor’s Office agreed last October in a similar situation.
Fernandez was told yesterday on his Facebook profile the verbal clash that he had last Friday with First Lieutenant Manuel Fernández García, who called him from the street at the foot of the building where he lives, in Santos Suárez (Havana) when he had just finished the humor column that he signs in La Joven Cuba on Sundays and told him that now he was the one who “attends” the publication.
“That has nothing to do with it,” the agent replies. “You say it, and I as a citizen have the right to doubt,” Fernández replied.
“He hands me the piece of paper, so sloppy that it does not hide a number written on top of another that gives it a certain air of ‘solve with that, there are no models for so much,'” the journalist recounts the moment the officer handed him a summons for Monday. Fernández confirms that both the date and the time are clear, but he disagrees about the place of the appointment, as it is in a different municipality from his residence (Plaza de la Revolución).
“That has nothing to do with it,” the agent replies. “You say so, and as a citizen I have the right to doubt,” Fernández replied, noting how his observation annoyed the lieutenant.
The collaborator points out that the officer expressly reminded him not to be inspired by the case of Alina Bárbara López Hernández warning him that “Matanzas is not Havana” and assured him that the laws were violated in that case. “And how many have been prosecuted for this?” Fernández replied, according to his account, who insists on the null sense of humor with which the lieutenant received his comments.
The writer went to the Havana Prosecutor’s Office on Monday to file a claim to request the annulment of the act and announced that he would not go on his own foot to the office of Zapata y C to be questioned. “Transportation is bad enough,” he joked.
Fernández wonders why, if the Revolution has the majority support of the intellectual elite, they cannot sit down to have a civil discussion with the “confused” and “misguided” and in a more appropriate place than a police station. “How can a battle be called ‘of ideas’ that does not involve everyone who possesses them, but only those who say ‘yes because yes’, ‘yes but no’ and ‘yes because if I say no…’? “, he laments.
The writer also reproaches that there is an alleged press worthy of being called revolutionary if it never questions the policies of the Government “that decide destinies, dreams and personal and collective achievements.” Fernández also asks that the collaborators of The Young Cuba whatever they want, but at least “have the decency and courage to publish any of our articles without erasures”.

Lastly, in his statement on Monday morning, the collaborator ironized the style of his writing for being sarcastic. “What fault do I have for being born in such a fun country and with such nice leaders? The difficult thing will be to mutilate my freedom to laugh at the joke that I will keep silent”.
Hours later, the writer He turned to the social network again to reassure the many who were concerned about his situation and stated that no one had bothered him since he filed the claim, although he is now awaiting the decision of the Prosecutor’s Office, which has up to 60 days to rule.
Fernández, who thanks those who have supported him in these tense days, hopes to run the same fate as the teacher and jokes about his alternatives if his claim does not prosper. There will always be the alternative of moving to the Athens of Cuba, where, judging by his statement, the law is violated with impunity and summonses are not what they used to be.
