This Monday, January 30, the government inaugurated a bridge between the towns of Centennial Town, Durazno, and Paso de los Toros, Tacuarembó. The mayor of the first department, Carmelo Vidalinstated that with that work joins “an older brother with a younger brother”.
In this brotherly bond, both of them peoples “walk together hand in hand without taking a toll”, emphasized the peach head. “Because Paso de los Toros and Centenario are part of the same identity, where one and the other, the only thing they want is growth and development”, he insisted, according to Telemundo.
The investment of this work was higher than US$ 18 million dollars, according to the website of the Presidency of the Republic; as detailed by the Minister of Transportation, José Luis Falero, negotiated with the company UPMwhich allowed “an extraordinary starting complement” of US$ 60 million, assured the chief, according to the aforementioned portal.
The construction of the structure took about 18 months and employed about 70 workers Uruguayans, several of them residents in the area.
The inaugurated bridge, 550 meters long and 11 meters wide, is located on the bypass linking both towns. The works also include the south and north accesses from Route 5, two access roundabouts and an interchange to the UPM pulp mill. All this allows “generate a safe flow of traffic both heavy and light vehicles,” the company said in a statement.
“The new road infrastructure built in the area will allow raise the safety standards of traffic circulation, separating the neighborhood traffic from the productive vehicular flow“, the document details.
In this sense, the vice president of the growth project of UPM Javier Solari stated that works like this bridge “are an example of the development generated by projects such as UPM Paso de los Toros”, thus providing “greater infrastructure and connectivity.”
