The Minister of the Environment and leader of the Colorado Party, Adrián Peña, decided to resign from the ministry a few days after the controversy broke out over his non-existent university degree that gave rise to talk in the political and citizen spheres.
“I must be the example and I have made this decision days ago,” he said in the statement made in the Antechamber of the Chamber of Deputies, where he claims to have gone to “honor the truth” but without accepting questions.
Peña proposed a name to President Luis Lacalle Pou to succeed him in office, who accepted it and it was confirmed minutes later: Robert Bouvier will be the new Environment chief, who until now was vice president of ANTEL.
The leader of the Ciudadanos del PC sector admitted that “lying for some time” about having a degree in Business Administration. In fact, since at least 2015 he would have presented himself as such and there are official government documents in which he is listed as “Licenciado Adrián Peña”. The controversy broke out when it was learned -first- that the title was obtained only in 2022, but the last thing that was known this weekend is that from the Catholic University of Uruguay they remarked that he still lacks a subject to get the cardboard that titled as a graduate.
What is missing is a six-day practical seminar that is a requirement to be able, now, to sign as a graduate in Business Administration.
