A total of 880,000 Cuban pesos, chains and a bag were violently robbed of a couple by two subjects last Saturday in Guanabacoa, Havana.
As published by La Página de Mauro Torres, a profile of State Security on FacebookBoth were arrested the same day in the El Roble neighborhood.
According to testimonies, the thugs summoned the victims in the Chibás district, Guanabacoa municipality, for an “illegal currency exchange,” but at the scene they met two hooded men, who after “intimidating them with two firearms They stripped them of their belongings and fled.
In videos uploaded to the TikTok platform by the user @eduancch, the moment in which the thieves try to escape is observed and one of them fires a shot with a homemade pistol, in images recorded by witnesses from inside a vehicle.
The escape, according to the official publication, “looked like a movie, but the officers did not skimp and caught them. They did not hesitate for a minute.” The text widely praises the officers of the National Revolutionary Police who arrested the attackers, but some comments put things in their place. Specifically, Asnay Rodríguez wrote that congratulations should also be extended to the residents of the El Roble neighborhood, since they were the ones who really “caught” the assailants and “detained them until the authorities arrived and helped to search for the two weapons that they hid behind a building.
In the Más Zurdos space on Facebook, Reynaldo Negrete stressed that he knew that one of the victims was the one who “caught the thieves” with the support of the people. She denied that “it was the police who acted quickly” when there are images in which it can be seen that they were the same citizens. “Don’t take credit. The people made it possible.”
Daner Cruz León added that “if it weren’t for the victims and the people who came out to help and capture the criminals, the heroes in blue would not have been able to do anything.”
The authorities indicated that they managed to recover the money from the victims, who are in good health. In one of the comments, Kirenia González noted that the couple would end up losing the money: “How are they going to justify the origin, even if it is theirs? They will go from victims to defendants for the illegal purchase of currency.”
In November 2022 the Ministry of the Interior alerted through their social networks on robberies with the use of violence, linked to currency exchange in the illegal market through digital platforms.
